I am convinced that silence is essential.
To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation.(Psalm 62:1)
My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. (Psalm 62:5)
But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him. (Habakkuk 2:20)
Be silent in the presence of the Lord God; For the day of the Lord is at hand, For the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; He has invited His guests. (Zephaniah 1:7)
Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused from His holy habitation! (Zephaniah 2:13)
Silence is one of the actions we are to take in our relationship to God. It is the place of listening.
Silence is the place of listening.
Silence is the place of waiting.
Silence is the place where you hear God and God alone.
Of course this is balanced with action and paying attention to God while you are doing things. Nonetheless, many modern contexts seem to discount the role of silence. Often I have asked, what am I supposed to do there? One answer is to simply wait and listen. Where is there to go when you are with God in His will in silence?
